Day Three to Day Seven-Drove about 275 miles to Astoria from Seattle and spent the night near the famous Astoria bridge. View of the big boats outside our window and spent a quiet night with the dogs before our move on to our favorite spot, Cannon Beach, Oregon. On day four we drove to Seaside, Oregon and got some groceries and then on to Cannon Beach. We are staying in the Tolovona Inn where we have stayed many times before. Cannon Beach is a seaside community, average population 4500. It is famous for Haystack Rock and is full of amazing beach homes that sell in the upwards of a million plus dollars. The special thing about Cannon Beach is the artsy feel, they allow no fast food restaurants and keep the town inhabited by theater and artsy type shops. I especially love the Cannon Beach bakery famous for its Haystack break among many, many delicious varieties of muffins and pastries. It is a dog friendly community and so everyone stops to talk and tell you stories of their pets that they have left at home or share their pet/pets they have brought with them. The foliage is out of this world and the beach is the highpoint of it all. Playing in the sand during the day, children build castles until the tide comes in to wash them away. In the evening tents are set up with chairs to enjoy a blazing fire with the ocean sounds crashing in the background. It is picturesque, especially in the summer months and many of the expensive homes are owned by families that come here from the city to spend their summer weekends. The temperatures range around 70 degrees with humidity in the early morning and rarely a bug in sight. Cannon Beach is also surrounded by mountains which are lush with color. We have been here at least seven times, so I guess you can say it is on the top of our list for enjoyment!
