August 16- Day 23 of our vacation
It seems that once we get into the rhythm of being in a different climate, it will be time to go home. We have been in our condo for a little over two weeks and that means we are halfway to our departure date. At first I thought it our memories of the northwest were wrong as we started our days in the condo with cloudiness and drizzle. It didn't take long for the front to pass and we began to experience the pattern of clouds until noon and then sunshine until evening. Perfect days for retired people with two dogs from the midwest. Our daily temperatures are about 70 degrees with no humidity and no bugs! Everywhere we look around our neighborhood are giant sized shrubs, flowers, and pines trees. There
are mini bluffs made from natural rock and that just adds to the beauty of the landscape. Our condo is in part of an association, so all the lawns are cared for, along with shrub trimming and mulch added as needed. The associations fees also cover the cost of painting your home when needed. So, the people that live here have essentially no outdoor work, and yet have the advantage of a nicely groomed neighborhood.
Our little dogs have been enjoying the weather and more time outside than they ever get to have at home in the humidity. We did get a real kick out of them today when we took them to the beach. It was warmer, without a breeze today, so by the time we walked through the sand, the dogs were already
hot. Up until now, the dogs have romped along the sand and made friends with people we meet. However, today, we were walking into the water to cool off and we tried to take them with us. Once
the water hit their legs, they just froze and then ran for shore. We couldn't even pull them back toward us. They stood like statues, so we ended up bringing them back to the house. They have loved everything so far, so I guess we will have to excuse them on this one. We walked the neighborhood tonight and decided that tomorrow we will leave them here while we go out.
With the weekend coming, there will be an increase in activity on the beach, but an advantage to being in one place is that you find beaches that are not as well known. No matter where you go, it is always beautiful. This weekend is also the "Chalk Contest" at the harbor to raise money for the local animal shelter. We are hoping to see some of the three dimensional drawing, but it may just involve the kids of the area.
