Finally I had to break down and get a haircut, and it is hard to make a change from my special Carleen Miller to someone new. We drove down the main road until we found a place that said "walk ins welcome." At first, it seemed that there were no appointments available, but then there was Mike.
He was fairly tall, gray hair and appeared to be close to my age. Everyone has a story and soon I learned all about him. He came to the United States from Scotland when he was young. He met
his wife in England and they ended up here because of her sister. Over the years he worked on motorcycles and actually knew "Evil Knievel." His wife became a self trained artist and he had many of her pictures in the shop. Sadly, his wife died four years ago, I didn't ask him how or why, but she was only 58 years old. He has two sons, Andrew and Peter and they both live nearby because they worry about him. He is taking care of his son's dog which is a mix between a labrador and a pit bull. He said it is much better coming home to the dog than to an empty house. He was a sweet man, but as always when you encourage someone to talk, they forget about your hair. My hair is really short now, but I met an interesting person, so I guess the hair will grow back.
The weather today was in the 80's which is much different here than in Iowa because the humidity is so low. It was a beautiful day and we went to the beach later in the day. The tide was going out, so we were able to see many star fish today and that is a "must see" when taking a trip to the northwest. Even when we go to the same beach, the time of day can change everything: the colors on the rocks, the shimmer of the water, and the appearance of sea life. It was another great day and tonight is the "Blue Moon" which is an added bonus!
